Background

The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. We work at the invitation of governments to support them and the private sector to create and sustain high-quality health systems.

Responsibilities 

  • Administer daily accounting operations in compliance with CHAI financial policies, donor requirements, and local regulations.

  •  Prepare complete payment packages, including cash release statements, ensuring timely review and approval by the Finance Manager or Country Director.

  •  Capture all transactions accurately into QuickBooks and generate financial reports as needed.

  •  Initiate transactions using the organization’s online banking platform and act as the primary liaison with local banks and financial institutions.

  •  Retrieve, reconcile, and properly file all financial backup documents from staff and vendors within stipulated timelines.

  •  Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

  •  Prepare and review bank reconciliation statements and ensure prompt resolution of discrepancies.

  •  Maintain up-to-date records for accounts payable, accounts receivable, staff advances, and vendor payments.

  •  Ensure all financial activities comply with internal policies, donor guidelines, and statutory requirements.

  •  Monitor adherence to internal controls and recommend adjustments or improvements when required.

  •  Support internal and external audits by organizing documents and responding to audit queries.

  •  Maintain confidentiality and secure storage of financial and sensitive documents.

  •  Support preparation of accurate financial statements for program and donor reporting.

  •  Assist the Finance Manager in preparing and monitoring budgets.

  •  Contribute to donor financial reporting, ensuring expenditures align with approved budgets.

  •  Assist in preparing financial documentation and reports required by program teams and government partners, including expenditure summaries and program financial updates.

  •  Support asset management activities, including inventory updates and periodic asset verification.

  •  Collaborate with operations and procurement teams to ensure accurate and timely vendor payments.

  •  Support preparation of disbursement reports and financial updates required by ongoing programs.

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

  •  Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably within donor-funded programs

  •  Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and reconciliations

  •  Demonstrated experience with donor financial management and reporting requirements

  •  Advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Excel and financial analysis

  •  In-depth knowledge of QuickBooks and financial accounting systems

  •  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills

  •  Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

  •  High proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, as well as Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based tools
